Hi all,

I started a new contract with a college to assess ITQ and I was asked by my IV to develop a course outline (similar to a scheme of work) for each of my candidates. It is the first time in over ten years, that someone asks me to do something like that. Did any other assessor done something similar before? And what is the point of it? Wouldn't it be easier to develop an overall assessment plan in the beginning and use a tracking sheet?
Please enlighten me....

Hi Mike

Is he/she not talking about an ILP?

The ones we use have all the sort of gumph regarding which NVQ, start date, end date, units, short term and medium term targets etc. Surely that's what is needed

Hi Dave,

the ILP is a seperate document (used it for donkey years, no probs with that).  The Course outline is the same as if you would do a scheme of work for a classroom based course with all the dates either weekly or fortnightly planned until the end of course, plus content of lesson, delivery methods etc. It is just strange...

Hmmm

This seems to me to go against the principle of the NVQ.

I know the NVQ is tailored to the individual needs of the candidate but to plan it all out at the beginning - or before you start is strange. Progress and topics covered will vary according to candidate performance and opportunities presented in the working environment. How can you plan what units you are going to do and when? Especially as we should be assessing holistically.

Dave

PS At last a topic on the forum! I thought it was going to fade away!

Hi Dave,

I know it is a strange one. It is only possible for planning using a assessment plan for the next couple of weeks or so, but not for the whole length of the course. What about observations.......etc.It is not workable, but the organisation thinks so. All i sent off was a Tracking sheet with all relevant dates put in (e.g. start/end dates for each units etc.). See what they come back with.
I also took over a candidate doing level 3 ITQ, where the previous assessor had done nothing in terms of assessment plans etc, but only told the candidate, that he should do unit by unit and unti 301 (Mandatory) on its own as well (no holistic approach at all). But this is something I came across alot in different organisations here in London over the last 8 years. I could rant on .... never mind.
