Does anyone understand the new QCF Funding.  I have some knowledge having contacted the LSC although my feeling is that finding out this information is rather like trying to join a gentlemans club.  You need the right password or something.....I have discovered that funding will continue to support the idea of the NVQ although it will be made up of different units than previous. There are about fifty full NVQ's that are available.  What I want to know is will the units be funded on a stand alone basis or will they only be funded as part of a full Cert, Award or Diploma.....And if funding is awarded on that basis will there be guidance on which units are to be combined under a title.
For example would I get funding for a business skills NVQ if it comprised.

A customer service unit
A filing unit
An ITQ unit
A Teamwork unit
A communication in the work place unit.

provided this made up the 13 credits that is being set as the criterior for a 'full NVQ'.  By the way the LSC is still calling them NVQ's even though they are QCF funded.

Hi,

My understanding is that the funding model will remain the same and each eligible unit will be assigned an SLN number - just as full qualifications are at the moment.

From the LSC:

'Eligible units will be assigned individual SLN values in the AL and ER models.  The SLN value will be based on the level of input required for each unit.  Where possible recommended GLH for units will be used to set this value, with units of similar size being group together; otherwise a view will be taken on the expected delivery input required.  Based on initial experience with the trial in 2008/09, the rates may be reviewed for 2009/10.'

'When a learner chooses to progress from following individual units to a full qualification, the level of funding received for the individual units should be discouned from the level claimed for the full qualification.  The amount discounted would be the funding already received for those units which form part of the full qualification, taking into account the QCF rules of combination.'

I hope that answers your question - although I appreciate it may not.

If you'd like any more detail please let me know - alternatively, you could always offer me a job, haha!

All the best,

Matt

Hi Mat,

I appreciate the trouble you went to  to answe this, unfortunately having not been well it has taken me a while to get back to you.  This explains some of the process to me.  I still can't get a handle on whether I can get funding thought.  The quals that I am offering are called a Certificate for the Award in Progression and I am offering units that can be grouped to make a full award which is 24 credits. It might make it a little clearer if you look here. www.onlinecoachingpartnerships.co.uk

Hello again,

My apologies but without knowing exactly what you're delivering I'm not sure I can be much more help.

My understanding is that so long as you're deliving accredited units/qualifications then funding will be available as per your contract allocation.

Let me know how you get on with this.
