Topic: Becoming an EV Posted: 27 Feb 2007 at 9:29pm |
Hi all
I have recently applied to C&G as I want to complete the EV award. Can anyone tell me how this is implemented? Am I right in thinking that I will be allocated centres and complete the external verification with another EV until I am qualified?
What is the initial process of my application is accepted??
Any advice welcome
Thanks

Hi Trish
I'm not an EV but this is something I have looked into. I'm not 100% sure how it works with C&G. Newly appointed EVs with OCR undertake EV training and induction, and then accompany existing EVs on two visits before being allocated a centre of their own.
As with other assessor awards you have 18 months to complete your V2 award. I would imagine that C&G allocate assessors to put new EVs through this qualification, as with OCR.

Hi Trish
Matt's more or less on target with what he says, except that EVs have to achieve V2 within 12 months of starting their role, not 18 months. You need a minumum of 3 centres to provide evidence for V2 and your awarding body (in your case, C&G) will allocate an assessor to you.

Hi Trish
Me also, but if selected to attend a shortlist interview, its very difficult to get on the EV training programme even if you have been asked to apply for the position, so I am lead to believe. Would be intersting to see how we both get along

Sorry to hear that, Phil. But C&G are not the only awarding body - have you tried any of the others? If you are able to assess any "specialist" areas, that may help. By specialist I mean areas that may not have so many EVs already in post - some examples might be Health and Safety, Teacher Training, Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, IT Practitioners and anything else that is slightly out of the norm.

I have assessed and IV IT Practitioner, IT Professional, also the Aerial Engineers and Taxi Drivers NVQ's. Thought that there is not many more diverse NVQ's about. Would seem that these specialist areas are not in demand by City and Guilds have applied to a couple of others but then again Edxcel are not wanting Ev's in these areas either only other I can think of is Goal formerly LCCI. Any ideas?

Hmm, yes, you certainly have a good range of areas to offer - can't imagine why they're not in demand! If it's just a case of they don't need any at the moment, it's worth keeping an eye on the vacancies pages for when an opportunity does arise. I'd have thought that there will be opportunities coming up in the Taxi Driving area, as that seems set to grow quite rapidly. For IT Practitioner and IT Professional, you could try OCR. They're not actually advertising for EVs at the moment, but you could try putting in a spec letter. It can take quite a while before you hear anything, so don't worry if it doesn't happen right away.
The only other advice I can think of is - nag! And talk to any EVs you already know in the areas/awarding bodies you want to get into.
Good luck!
